How can I learn English?

The best way to learn English is through a structured course led by a native-level teacher. Here at Lingoda, we believe a communication-based approach is the ideal way to develop your ability, as it allows you to build the confidence to use English for conversations and enables your teacher to correct any mistakes.
When you take English lessons, you should be using a combination of skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. It’s important to work on all these language skills in a supportive environment. Of course, you can always supplement your learning by listening to podcasts and using other online resources.

Our online English course also teaches functional English language abilities. Throughout the lessons, you’ll encounter a variety of dialects, accents and slang words covering various English-speaking regions. This means you’ll experience everything from Americanisms to New Zealand slang and British exclamations.

Is English an easy language to learn?

The English language has its fair share of challenges, including some confusing grammatical rules, an extremely large vocabulary, and some words that are difficult to spell. Despite this, it’s a relatively easy language to learn and an extremely accessible language, as it is so widely spoken all around the world.

While the precise difficulty of learning English will depend on your first language and how similar the rules are, most people will find they make progress quickly if they dedicate the time to studying. This can be aided by attending online English lessons regularly and taking the time to practice speaking out loud.

The overall popularity of the English language and its importance in a range of areas, including international politics, film, literature and music, helps greatly with learning, as it’s extremely easy to immerse yourself in English.

How are the English online classes organised?

Here at Lingoda, we offer a standard online English course, as well as a Business English course. The former is designed to help learners achieve fluency and general competence with the language, while the latter focuses on equipping learners with the language skills needed to boost prospects in the international job market. On top of this, learners have the option of either a Flex or Sprint model.

With the Flex approach, you can customise your own learning and adjust the intensity every four weeks. You’ll learn in small classes of around five people, and you’ll also have options for one-to-one sessions. Classes are available 24/7, so you can learn English at times convenient for your schedule and lifestyle.

Alternatively, challenge yourself with the Sprint course. This is all about quick progress and big rewards. You’ll take either 30 or 60 classes in a two-month period and can earn 50% of your money back by completing the course.

Which English learning levels are offered?

With Lingoda, you can learn as an absolute beginner and continue to advance all the way to fluency. If you take our English course online, you’ll be able to learn at the following language levels:

  • Level A1: Absolute Beginner – Learn some of the most basic words and common English phrases.
  • Level A2: Beginner – Start to ask and answer questions and have simple interactions in English.
  • Level B1: Intermediate – Develop the ability to hold everyday conversations in English.
  • Level B2: Upper-Intermediate – Focus more on complex topics and develop a degree of fluency.
  • Level C1: Advanced – Progress towards true English language proficiency.

It should be noted that our Business English class does not currently offer Level C1.

How do I know my English language level?

The English courses offered by Lingoda are spread across five different levels. If you’re inexperienced or want to brush up on even the basics, you can safely join at Level A1 or Level A2. However, if you have some knowledge of English and are looking to continue from roughly the same place you reached before, you need to know your language level.

If you have a certificate from a previous course or already know your current language level, you should feel free to jump back in at that level. However, we’re aware that many people have some existing knowledge of the English language, but they may not have certificates or a true understanding of the level they reached.

Fortunately, we have a solution: you can take our free English language placement test to get an estimate of your current level. The test is easy to understand and takes around five minutes to complete.
